Spinal Touch Therapy
Spinal Touch ( Bio Mechanics Technique ) was first developed by Dr Hurley in the early 20’s, a structural engineer, prior to becoming a chiropractor. He applied the laws of physics as well as his knowledge as an engineer to the human body, and determined the proper integrity of the human structure. This technique is now practised by a number of body work practitioners world wide.
It is a simple, yet powerful, muscle relaxation technique used for realigning the body at its centre of gravity. All matter in the universe possesses its own centre of gravity upon which gravitational pull acts, hence why any object dropped from a height without other forces acting upon it will drop towards the centre of the earth.
The body’s Centre of Gravity is located at the lumbo-sacral articulation ( 5th lumbar vertebra and the 1st sacral segment ) All forces acting upon the body are concentrated at this site. Therefore anything of a traumatic nature that affects any part of the body will ultimately have an effect at this point, thus displacing the centre of gravity. This will in turn disturb the para-spinal muscles, affecting the balance of the body and its innate healing abilities.
Spinal Touch is primarily concerned with restoring the body’s centre of gravity and creating a healthy balanced state on all levels.
Postural and pelvic distortion is recognised and assessed when the client is stood at the plumb line where various abnormalities can be determined. This form of assessment enables the practitioner to use the appropriate method to help correct the sacral distortions. Some of the postural abnormalities that are demonstrated at the plumb line may be pelvic twist, a stoop or back rigidity. The assessment and treatment is given to a client in their underwear, with or without a gown, and the actual treatment lasts no longer than 20 minutes. The spinal realignment is carried out on a couch and is done solely through a specific muscle relaxation technique and works to correct all types of problems with a non-forceful approach. The light touch technique covers the spine, back, abdomen, shoulders and head, thus facilitating painless postural correction.
This allows vital organs to relocate into their correct anatomical position, improveing function and enhancing essential bodily systems to work more effectively and efficiently. It can be used alongside any other treatment or medications often enhancing the effects of other complementary practices. A course of 3-4 sessions is recommended to allow the technique a chance to work. It can have a direct and beneficial effect on any client regardless of what symptoms of ill health they are exhibiting and due to the gentle approach is considered safe to use on children and the elderly.
Conditions that can be helped are acute or chronic pain, anxiety, back, neck and shoulder pain, scoliosis, excessive thoracic or lumbar curvature, repetitive strain injuries, whiplash injuries, insomnia, gastro-enteric conditions, respiratory problems, stress related dis-ease and many more disorders. |
